GFC redesigns bathroom focus – Stillness and style become winning formula

There is nothing like a GFC to make us more resourceful! Anecdotal evidence suggests consumers are becoming far more savvy in their choice of fixtures, fittings and colour palettes, demanding more for their dollar in order to create a greater sense of space and style in that room we are spending ever more time in – the bathroom.

Kohler, one of Australasia’s leading brands in bathroom fittings, reports a significant trend in consumers seeking simple, low profile, unadorned taps and accessories to maximise the perception of space and flow in a room that is all too often restricted by a less than optimal footprint!

First key is to aim for subtle, subdued colour palettes of whites and greys using a common tile for all wall surfaces – something like a subway tile design – and a coordinating tile for the floor. To conserve funds consider taking the tile to shoulder or head height and paint the remaining wall space. Even the vanity or bench surface can be tiled.

Most important is to achieve a sense of cohesion whereby all the tapware and accessories adopt a similar design aesthetic – this creates an uncluttered space with minimal visual interruptions. Even the toilet can be used to extend the perception of space – choose a wall-faced model to remove the visual obstacle of a cistern.

Kohler says a popular design in the past six months has been the Stillness collection of taps and accessories – beautifully simple tubular aesthetics are at the heart of this stylish look.

The bathroom pictured has cleverly used the Stillness design aesthetic in all basin and bath tapware plus all accessories, from storage shelf and towel rail to toilet tissue holder and robe hooks.

All Kohler accessories feature a polished chrome finish that is resistant to corrosion and tarnishing – and there are no visible fixings.

And while crisp and uncluttered in their design all of these pieces are highly functional and work well with the simple lines of the wall faced Panache toilet (4 star WELS) and the Evok 1800mm drop-in rectangular bath.

Kohler’s extensive portfolio of beautiful bathroom products is available exclusively from Kohler Design Centre in Auckland and Mico Design stores in New Zealand and Tradelink and Mico Design stores throughout Australia.
